Be careful not to let a Bulldog Puppy become overweight it will damage the stifle joints. If you stand over your Bulldog and look down you should see a “Pear Shape”, if so he or she is at the proper weight. If you see a barrel shape your Bulldog is overweight. As your dog matures it will begin to beef up, but this could take up to two years. A dog that is 5 pounds overweight is the same as a human being 50 pounds overweight. We supplement with Nu-vet Vitamins to assure optimum health and no tear stains.
WATER BOWLS MUST be low so that your puppy can walk through it. Sounds funny but bullies don’t bend their legs the same as other dogs. If their water bowl is too deep they can become trapped and drown easily. Your puppy is Water Bottle Trained so that the use of a bowl at this time is not necessary. We find that puppies make a huge mess with water and the bottle is a convenience through their lifetime. All our adult dogs can drink from a bottle which is nice because if we forget it we can stop anywhere to purchase bottled water (no bowl necessary).
The following is a list of do’s and don’ts for bullies: DO NOT: 1. Give a Bulldog rawhide chews. They will chew rawhide until it becomes soggy and like rubber. These chews are sometimes a long piece of hide and when soggy can choke your dog. They can, if swallowed become lodged in the intestinal tract and cause a blockage which would have to be surgically removed or possibly kill your dog. 2. Use plastic for water or food bowls. Always use stainless steel bowls for food & water. Stainless Steel is easily cleaned and does not harbor the bacteria that will cause irritation to your dogs chin and face. 3. Leave your dog unattended outside or in a vehicle. Bulldogs are naturally curious and will investigate most everything. If left unattended your bulldog will most likely wander off or possibly bolt to greet another dog or human. Bulldogs cannot be left in vehicles. Their muscular build causes them to overheat easily which can quickly lead to heatstroke when left unattended outside or in a vehicle.
4. Think your bulldog should have vigorous exercise. Walking from the kitchen to the bedroom is all your bulldog will need. He/she can go on short walks during very mild or cool temperatures, but if you try and walk your bulldog too far you may have to carry them back in your arms.
